Putting our vision into action
We push for changes in the social, cultural and structural barriers women experience when it comes to their health and wellbeing.
Leverage evidence to shape policy and public perception
Our advocacy is part of a 4-pillar approach to systematically dismantle barriers to women’s health. The other pillars include:
Every year, we conduct the National Women’s Health Survey to better understand what women in Australia need. This evidence helps us influence national priorities and shape systemic reforms, such as recent calls for paid menstrual and menopause leave.
In 2024, we contributed to the Senate Inquiry on menopause, using both global research and insights from our National Women’s Health Survey. Our submission was cited more than 40 times in the final Senate report.
This advocacy milestone reflects our deep engagement with the Australian government to improve health outcomes across every life stage.
We also collaborate with governments to align public policy with the needs of women’s health and lead community engagement.
Through initiatives like Women’s Health Week, we create space that empowers women to speak up and advocate for their health and wellbeing.
Championing women’s health needs
Our advocacy is grounded in understanding and amplifying women’s health needs as a trusted voice for women.
Raising awareness of the inequities and barriers
Working alongside our partners, we’re committed to improving the lives of women by identifying and raising awareness of:
Health inequities including gaps in mental health support, underrepresentation in health research and inequitable access to treatment.
Institutional barriers such as the systemic challenges that limit women’s opportunities and outcomes across different communities.
This matters because too often, women’s health needs are overlooked, underfunded, or misunderstood. By shining a light on these inequities and barriers, we aim to drive better research, fairer access to care, and stronger community support for all.
Leading the change for gender-responsive health care for all
We advocate for all people to receive gender-responsive care and position the organisation as the national peak body for women’s health.
