AI statement
At Jean Hailes for Women’s Health, we are testing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to 1) improve how we work so that we can produce more high-quality and tailored content, and 2) improve how users of the Jean Hailes website can find the evidence-based, trustworthy information they need
Ethical and responsible by design
We are committed to using AI ethically, responsibly and always in the best interests of women in Australia.
Jean Hailes follows a formal policy, set by our Board, when using AI. This policy is grounded in Australia’s Voluntary AI Safety Standard and reflects our commitment to transparency, safety and accountability.
We will continue to update this page as our approach develops. If you have questions about how we use AI, please contact us.
Improving how we work with AI
We are currently exploring how AI tools can support our internal work — including how we analyse data, and how we plan and produce marketing campaign materials and health information.
We are not using AI to write our health information. All editorial choices and decisions are made by our health information team with guidance from our evidence and insights team and our clinical experts.
We are, however, testing whether AI can produce drafts of written materials from our own database of evidence and insights that are even more tailored to different audiences, whether AI can help us more rapidly edit documents for clarity and consistency of language, and whether AI can help us more cost-effectively produce audio, images and illustrations that support our written materials.
This is an active “test and learn” approach, with our goal being to rigorously and carefully assess the advantages and disadvantages of using AI so that neither quality nor your trust are damaged.
There is always a human in the loop
Every use of AI at Jean Hailes involves experienced team members at every step. Our people review, check and approve all materials before they are published. AI might end up assisting us to do more and do better — it cannot and will not replace the judgement and expertise of our team.
Ask Jean — our AI health information tool
Ask Jean is our AI-powered chatbot designed to help women find trusted health information. It is only available on the Jean Hailes website.
Ask Jean draws exclusively on Jean Hailes’ own published and clinically reviewed health content. It does not search the general internet, draw on unverified sources, or generate information from outside our own body of work. This means the answers it provides are grounded in the same evidence-based information that you can find on our website.
Ask Jean is designed to help women build their knowledge, skills and confidence — not to replace the advice of a health professional. It will not diagnose conditions or recommend specific treatments. For sensitive topics, Ask Jean will direct women to appropriate professional support and crisis services.
As with all our AI use, Ask Jean operates under ongoing human oversight. Our team is continually monitoring its performance and reviewing its responses to ensure it continues to meet our standards for safety, accuracy and quality.
Ask Jean is a new approach that Jean Hailes is testing to better serve the needs of women in Australia. If you have any feedback on Ask Jean or spot anything that should be improved or corrected, please contact us.
