This year's Women’s Health Week is shaping up to be one of the best yet, with hundreds of events set to take place around the country. We caught up with two event hosts to see what they have planned for the biggest week in women’s health this September.
Art and exercise will collide in Western Australia when the people of Pingrup take a leisurely walk past the town’s giant grain storage towers (silos), which feature magnificent hand-painted murals.
Many health issues are found during discussions. By getting women together, they bond and share stories.”

The afternoon stroll is set for 6 September and will span roughly 1.5 kilometres as part of Women’s Health Week.
“Anyone can take part,” says Donna Skerris, Events Manager at Pingrup Community Resource Centre, which is hosting the walk.
“Along the trail we are hoping to see some of the spring wildflowers before sharing afternoon tea.”
Donna says the get-together will help strengthen health and community ties in Pingrup, located 361 kilometres south-east of Perth and home to 263 people.
“Many health issues are found during discussions,” she says. “By getting women together, they bond and share stories.”
If you’re interested in hosting a Women’s Health Week event but aren’t sure where to start, Donna recommends keeping it simple. “It doesn't have to be a major event to get women talking and engaging [with] their health.”
For Victoria-based Fiona Davis, Women’s Health Week is about promoting self-care, raising awareness of support services and having fun with friends.
This September, she will host a ladies day at her Echuca home, where there will be activities and high tea.
“I’m thinking of having a dried flower arrangement or mosaic class. There will be a table with health information from Jean Hailes for guests to take home. I will also relay my own health journey, from a heart attack three years ago to managing my health back to a better place.”
This year will be Fiona’s second time hosting a Women’s Health Week event and she encourages others to “give it a go”.
“Get your friends together and support each other, whether it’s a group of five or 30.”
