Andrew Michelmore

Andrew Michelmore is Chairman of the Jean Hailes Board.

Andrew has more than 35 years’ experience in senior leadership roles in Australia and overseas in the metals and mining industry, including as CEO and executive director of MMG Limited, and CEO of Zinifex Limited and OZ Minerals Limited and in London and Russia as CEO of EN+. Prior to this he spent 12 years at WMC, including as CEO.

Andrew spent a significant part of his career working with developing communities around the world. He is passionate about sustainable development and committed to inspiring confidence to create a healthier future for all women.

Andrew has used his experience gained in business to help support the activities of a number of not-for-profit organisations.

Andrew is Chair of the Council of Ormond College at the University of Melbourne, Chair-elect of the Council of Melbourne Grammar School , Deputy Chair of Asia Society Australia, and on the boards of China Matters and Rowing Australia.

He holds a first-class honours degree in engineering (chemical) from the University of Melbourne, and a Master of Arts in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University. He is a Rhodes Scholar and a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers and the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering.

In 2017 Andrew was awarded an Order of Australia (AO) in recognition of his leadership in the mining industry and his commitment to improving safety, health and environmental outcomes.
