Step into Women’s Health Week - Women’s Health Survey and Women’s Health Week launch

Women's Health Week is the annual Jean Hailes campaign that encourages women to put themselves first for a week and think about their health and wellbeing. This launch event will be one of 100 Step into Life group training sessions held simultaneously across Australia.

The Women's Health Survey is an insight into the state of women across the country as they juggle busy home lives with work, family demands and the increasing pressures of the digital world. Survey results are used to create videos, podcasts, stories, recipes and other engaging content for Women's Health Week.

At the launch, a full copy of the survey report will be available. It will feature highlights (currently under embargo) such as:

  • 50.8% of surveyed women describe themselves as overweight or obese
  • 9.5% of women drink daily
  • 46.1% of surveyed women have been diagnosed with depression of anxiety by a doctor or psychologist
  • 66.9% of women reported feeling nervous, anxious or on edge nearly every day or on more than seven days in the past few weeks.

There will be opportunities to interview real women who reflect findings from the survey. Women's Health Week's major partner Step into Life, an outdoor group personal training organisation, will be running a group training session to celebrate the launch of the week, which runs 3-7 September.

The Survey: This is the fourth annual Women's Health Survey 2018. With more than 15,000 respondents this year, it's the largest to date. All results are under embargo until 9am on Sept. 1. Hard and soft copies of the Optus-sponsored report are available.

Women's Health Week: Running 3-7 September, more than 100,000 people across the country have already registered to attend a Women's Health Week event or subscribed to receive free daily videos, podcasts, stories, recipes and much more. Landmarks across Australia will be turning pink during the campaign in celebration, including Flinders Street Station and the Sound Tube in Melbourne, Sydney Town Hall, the Royal Mint in Canberra and SkyCity Adelaide.

Footage opportunities: Step into Life participants in purple 'Step into Women's Health Week' t-shirts will be doing a range of exercises including kick-boxing and circuit training. There will be women prepared to talk about their own health concerns and needs and Jean Hailes experts to put it all into perspective.
