Position statement on Roe v. Wade

Media releases 29 Jun 2022

As a leader in women’s health for 30 years, Jean Hailes for Women’s Health was concerned to learn the US Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the constitutional right to abortion access, known as Roe v. Wade.

We acknowledge that women in Australia may feel worried about the recent ruling in the USA, even though it is legal to have an abortion in Australia.

At Jean Hailes, we believe that women and people with a uterus have the right to manage their own health needs and choose what happens to their body. We believe they have the right to access safe medical or surgical abortion services Australia-wide. And we will continue to educate, support, and empower women, girls and gender-diverse people in Australia to make informed choices about their health.

If you need information about abortion in your state, visit MSI Australia (previously known as Marie Stopes Australia) or family planning services.
