Women's Health Week is a national campaign presented by Jean Hailes that aims to improve the health of all women in Australia. Held in the first week of September (2-6 September), the awareness and education campaign encourages women to think about, learn about, and do something positive for their health.
Women's Health Week campaign manager Brenda Jones says both organisations share similar messages around prevention and education. "The saying 'prevention is better than a cure' resonates with us," says Ms Jones. "We want to encourage women and girls to start making those changes that will have long-term positive benefits for their health and wellbeing.
"World Continence Week (17-23 June) is the perfect time to announce that during Women's Health Week we will be shining a light on a range of important health issues in the bathroom, including bowel and bladder health."
According to a new report released by Continence Foundation of Australia, one in three Australians are affected by incontinence and four out of five people who report living with incontinence are women.
"We are excited to be partnering with Women's Health Week to help reach women around Australia with important messages around looking after their health; in particular, their bladder, bowel and pelvic floor health," says Rowan Cockerell, CEO of the Continence Foundation of Australia.
"Incontinence, like many other health matters, can be improved, or in many cases, even cured.
"We also look forward to bringing a bit of humour to this serious, stigmatised health condition with our 'Laugh Without Leaking' Ambassador Bev Killick performing at this year's Women's Health Week Comedy Gala."
