In August 2018, as part of Women's Health Week, Jean Hailes made a pitstop in Dalby, Queensland, to once again visit the lovely team at Goondir Health Service.
Goondir Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Corporations for Health Services (Goondir Health Services) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS), providing primary healthcare and related health services to the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) communities from Oakey in south-east Queensland to St George in the state's south west.
The health service covers an area of about 160,000 square kilometres, working with more than 5000 clients.
We hosted a lovely morning tea for the nurses at the clinic, and gave a brief presentation on our online website and available resources, the work currently being done by Jean Hailes, and of course Women's Health Week. This allowed for some further discuss around the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, particularly in rural and remote areas.
We were also given a tour of the facilities and services at the health centre for women and families, which include programs addressing chronic disease, sexual health, diabetes, hearing health, health promotion/education activities and dental services.
