5 reasons to complete the National Women’s Health Survey

The Jean Hailes National Women’s Health Survey is urging women to share their experiences of the past 12 months. This is a unique opportunity to speak up for your health. Here are five reasons why completing the survey is important.

1. Because you matter

Your health matters. Your wellbeing matters. Your life matters. We know that the last two years have been challenging, but we want to know about your individual experience. Each woman is unique. So too is her voice.

2. Because if you speak up, we’ll listen

Sharing your experience helps us to identify the issues and concerns of women across Australia around their health and wellbeing. This significantly shapes the work we do in helping women become the healthiest versions of themselves.

“One of the aims of this survey has been to identify issues that concern women nationally,” says Janet Michelmore AO, CEO of Jean Hailes for Women’s Health.

That data informs our discussions with governments, State and Federal, and also guides us in providing the health information that women want.”

3. Because your voice holds power, no matter the language you speak

The women of Australia are drawn from many different cultures and speak many different languages. That’s why this year, for the first time, the survey is provided in Simplified Chinese, Arabic and Vietnamese, as well as English, so we can hear from more women across Australia.

4. Because it’s time to bring women’s health research into the spotlight

We know that men and women are not built the same either physically or biologically. But these differences are sometimes not acknowledged in medical research, and some research excludes women altogether. By completing the survey, you’re shining a light on women’s health and building knowledge in this area so we can fill the gaps.

5. Because we’re living in a time unlike any other

The survey takes the pulse of women’s health and wellbeing in this country. “It has been a time of great change and we know that women’s health has been influenced by the pandemic,” says Prof Jane Fisher AO, Finkel Professor of Global Health and one of the authors of the survey.

We want to know how women are feeling. It then allows us to provide high-quality information to reflect their needs.”
