The launch signals the start of an extensive awareness and education campaign by Jean Hailes for Women’s Health. The campaign is based on the recently launched PCOS evidence-based guideline, targeting a wide audience including health practitioners, women already diagnosed with PCOS, as well as the 70 per cent of women who have PCOS, but remain undiagnosed and untreated.

Jean Hailes is providing trustworthy and evidence-based advice on menopause, endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) to the corresponding Healthshare online communities.

Jean Hailes welcomes visiting Jordanian doctor to learn about women’s health
After completing a medical degree and a four-year residency in family medicine in Jordan, Dr Ruba Jaber is spending two months at the Jean Hailes Foundation for Women's Health in Clayton.

Dr Jaber is sitting in on consultations with patients to learn how the Jean Hailes specialists manage health issues ranging from menopause and perimenopause to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), contraception and psychological health. Read more...

Health impacts on the number of children women have
The stereotype of the selfish, career-focused woman who refuses to have children because they cramp her style is alive and well – but not very accurate.

New research from the University of Melbourne, published online this week in the Washington-based peer reviewed journal of the Jacob's Institute, Women's Health Issues, has found that health concerns – rather than a desire for career success and wealth – are playing a significant role in how many children women have, and whether they even have children at all. One way that women can contribute to the Jean Hailes Foundation is by volunteering to participate in the important research studies we conduct.

The Jean Hailes research unit is continually recruiting participants for a variety of research projects including women that may have had particular experiences or previous diagnoses or women that are healthy, without any particular previous medical history.

Current research studies:
- Acupuncture for hot flushes
We are looking for post-menopausal women who have never had any needle acupuncture in the past to participate in a clinical study on acupuncture for hot flushes (the “Acupause” study). Must be Victoria-based. More information...
- PCOS and insulin resistance – controls needed
We are looking for healthy women to participate in an insulin resistance study. You must be:
 - A premenopausal female aged 18-40 years
 - Not diagnosed with PCOS
 - A non-smoker
 - Non-diabetic
 - Not taking the oral contraceptive pill
 - Living in Victoria
