News: Jean Hailes researchers author discussion paper on settling newborn babies
Jean Hailes researchers Professor Jane Fisher and Dr Heather Rowe have authored a discussion paper titled ‘Understanding and responding to unsettled infant behaviour’, which has just been published on the authoritative Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth website.
"Many families face unsettled infant behaviour and it's almost invariably unexpected. You anticipate that a baby will be a relatively easy presence in your life," says Prof Fisher.
"Over time parents may seek help from paediatricians, GPs, maternal, child and family health nurses and at hospital emergency departments, but often they are given advice that is not very helpful, such as 'the baby will grow out of it' or 'feed your baby more frequently' or 'take the baby into your bed'. But we know none of these lead to a change in the baby's behaviour and so can lead to worse parental fatigue and anxiety." Read more...

Three out of four cases of ovarian cancer will be diagnosed at an advanced stage and unfortunately, the chances of surviving more than five years are less than 50 per cent. For the one out of four cases that are diagnosed at an early stage, the outlook is exceedingly good with as many as 90 per cent of patients being cured. Read more...
