Healthy Lifestyles in Pregnancy

Recruitment now closed

Much of the Australian population is overweight or obese and in particular, younger women of reproductive age are struggling to maintain a healthy weight. During pregnancy being overweight or obese increases the risk of complications, including an increased risk of developing pregnancy related diabetes (gestational diabetes).

The Healthier Lifestyles in Pregnancy study focuses on raising awareness about the importance of healthy eating and engaging in regular, moderate physical activity during pregnancy in women that are above healthy weight and may be at a higher risk of developing pregnancy related diabetes. The study aims to improve the quality of care given to pregnant women whilst promoting healthy lifestyle choices.

Women attending Southern Health for their pregnancy are currently being recruited early in their pregnancy. The study aims to recruit over 200 women across Monash Medical Centre and Casey and Dandenong Hospitals.
