Dear friend of Jean Hailes
It has been a very exciting time at the Jean Hailes Foundation for Women's Health. We had our second webcast on 1 September which saw approximately 2,500 women logging on, either at home or as a member of one of 70+ community groups across the country, to watch and learn how to be 'fabulous in your 40s'.
Not only has the feedback from the night been wonderful, but watching the webcast made me think about the work that we do and the important difference we can make in women's lives to their health and wellbeing.
The webcast came about because of all the questions that we receive from women; sometimes from telephone calls, via the website, sometimes from a visit to our medical clinic and sometimes from our research and seminars.
It is really important to us at the Foundation that we listen to the needs of women, listen to their concerns and listen to what they would like to hear more about. One of the joys of picking up the phone at the Foundation is that you hear 'women's stories' – you learn so much from those calls.
This issue of the magazine features topics that were chosen by you in our recent online survey. We wanted to create a magazine that was inspired by the very people who would be reading it – it is not about us, it's about you.
In this magazine you will find information on memory loss, chronic pain and bowel health, their causes and what might be useful to think about when making decisions about how to seek help.
For the first time, all of our feature articles contain comments by experts from outside the Foundation. This was very important to us because seeking input from a range of experts allows us to bring you the most up-to-date, evidence-based health information available. A big thank you is owed to all our collaborators for generously donating their time and expertise.I hope you enjoy this edition of our wonderful magazine, but most importantly I encourage you to let us know your thoughts and what you would like to hear more about or want some help with when it comes to your health. We will be here to listen.
If you are anything like me, you will be running around trying to fit in all those last minutes details before the holidays, and end up being exhausted. During the webcast Rosie King gave us all some excellent advice – prioritise, delegate and prune.
How sensible!
Best wishes and happy holidays!
