What’s new in education

Ensuring women across Australia get the health information they need is one of the Foundation’s greatest challenges. Using innovative technology, we reached out via our recent webcast, which was streamed live across the country. This will remain a quality online resource, particularly for those in rural and remote communities.

Community webcast – available online now

Our first community webcast saw almost 2,000 women across the country log on to learn more about menopause.

Participants watched gynaecologist Dr Elizabeth Farrell, psychologist Dr Mandy Deeks and naturopath Ms Sandra Villella talk about the latest information on menopause symptoms, lifestyle, herbal and hormone options as well as emotional health and libido issues.

We faced many challenges with this initiative, particularly technology issues. However, enormous benefits were gained, including:

  • Reaching out to all corners of the country, particularly rural and remote areas
  • Offering local community centres an up to date, reliable women’s health resource
  • Building relationships with local community groups

If you missed it, our community webcast and a range of questions and answers are available to view at www.jeanhailes.org.au/content/view/444/568/

Endometriosis – new website

We are proud to launch a new website about endometriosis. Formerly maintained by the Endometriosis Association of Victoria, it contains information about symptoms, diagnosis, treatments, pregnancy/infertility and personal stories. Endometriosis is a common and often painful condition affecting approximately one in 10 women at some stage during their menstruating years.

This website will be expanded in the future to cover:

  • Emotional health and wellbeing
  • Natural therapies and complementary medicine
  • Materials directed at health professionals
