Women will have two opportunities to hear leading experts speak on midlife women’s health and wellbeing on Friday March 30 at the Ex-Servicemen’s Club in Griffith. A morning and evening session are planned for the community, with a special update for local health professionals on the evening of March 29 at the Kidman Wayside Inn.
National organisation, the Jean Hailes Foundation for Women’s Health, has joined with Greater Southern Area Health Service and Griffith Neighbourhood Community Centre to bring a range of interesting and relevant health experts to the local community.
The event promises to provide a wealth of information and practical tips on living and ageing well, including nutrition and healthy eating, osteoporosis, diabetes and emotional health.
Speakers include:

Dr Mandy Deeks – psychologist, Jean Hailes Foundation for Women’s Health
Ms Sandra Royal – Greater Southern Area Health Service
Jean Hailes director of research Professor Helena Teede will update women on the latest evidence-based information on options for menopause symptoms, as well as discussing healthy eating and physical activity. “We can change so much by making simple, sustainable lifestyle changes,” says Professor Teede. “Women coming along on the evening can expect to hear about what they can do to help themselves to take an active role in living a healthy and fulfilling life.”
Jean Hailes psychologist Dr Mandy Deeks will talk about emotional health and wellbeing particularly at midlife. Dr Deeks is a passionate speaker on women’s health. “Remember, this is your life and only you are in control of it,” she says. “We are very complex beings and there are many influences on our lives, especially our physical and emotional wellbeing.”
Local organiser Sandra Royal title from Greater Southern Area Health Service says “It is so important for women to have the opportunities to explore their health options so they can think about their own needs and make choices that are right for them,” she said. “We encourage women to come along to these events to hear about the latest research from experts in the field and to ask any questions they may have.”
The Jean Hailes Foundation for Women’s Health is an independent, non-profit national organisation that provides research, education and clinical care for the health and wellbeing of Australia ’s five million women aged 35 plus.
Greater Southern Area Health Service provides a range of services, including direct clinical services, a range of home and community-based services, as well as public health illness prevention and health promotion services.
